By the end of the day, a fan video surfaced: The Disaster Artist Teaser Trailer IN LEGO, a stop-motion remake constructed entirely from Lego pieces with the likenesses of their live-action counterparts. We had some questions. How does someone see the trailer and post a perfect shot-for-shot replica less than 10 hours later? Who knows where to find a Dave Franco/Greg Sestero Lego man? Jack Nash, the 14-year-old Lego-hoarding creator, filled us in.

So who are you? Where do you live?

My name is Jack Nash and I'm 14 years old. I recently moved to Sarasota, Florida. I’ve always had a passion for movies and started my YouTube channel when I was 11.

Are you a big fan of The Room?

I first heard of The Room when I was about 12, but I didn’t see it until about 6 months ago. My friend mentioned it in a conversation and we ended up watching it that weekend with a group of about 7 friends. I don’t think I’ve ever laughed harder in my life. It's such a fun movie to watch in a group…I think everyone should see it at least once in their life.

How did you decide to do a Lego trailer for The Disaster Artist?

I'd heard about The Disaster Artist back in March and was really excited to see it having seen The Room prior. I woke up the day the trailer came out and was on Skype with my one friend when I remembered that the trailer had dropped. I think we both watched it like 10 times. He suggested that I recreate the trailer in Lego, and, well, since I had nothing going on that day I said, why not, I could do something cool with this.

Can you walk us through how you made this?

I watched the trailer a bunch of times, wrote down all the shots that it had and all the things I needed. I then spent the next hour getting all the pieces together and building the sets. I used a Canon Rebel T3i to film the stop motion video and I used DragonFrame to animate it. It took me about 4 hours to film the whole thing. I hadn’t planned on finishing it in one day, I was just in the zone. After converting the actual trailer into an audio film, I used Final Cut Pro to edit it and really only needed to make a few simple color corrections before I was totally done.

But how did you get the Lego parts? They look exactly like the characters.

Well I really looked at every character in the trailer and tried to find the piece that matched it. I had to make a few adjustments, most notably I had to color James Franco's shirt black with a sharpie because it was white.

How many Legos do you own?

I started to get Lego as a young kid when I was around 5, since then I just kept getting them from Santa, my parents and grandparents. I have too many to count! I would always make up stories about them and would pretend to make movies. When I got older and discovered I liked making movies but really didn't have the money to make big action movies, I realized I had all the Lego that I needed to achieve my goal.

You posted the video the same day the trailer went online. How long did you spend on it?

I spent basically the whole day on it. I woke up around 10:30am and saw the trailer at 11. I posted the trailer around 9:30pm so I spent a good 7 or 8 hours on it.

How did you get into stop motion animation?

I was about 8 years old when I saw my first Lego animation. I was amazed by it and had no idea how these people did it. Over the next 3 years I continued to watch people like ForrestFire101 and Linkinpop13 and really got inspired. I already had that love of filmmaking, Lego, and the knowledge that people make movies with Lego so all 3 of those things just came together and I created JackFilmer, my Youtube site.

How does a 14 year old get into an R-rated movie these days?

That's a very good question. I usually get my parent’s permission before I go to one, I usually go to the movies with my friends who all like movies too, so the secret is to have one of your friends to organize the whole thing so their parents will have to go with you.

What’s your favorite movie?

I love a lot of different movies for different reasons, but if I had to pick one I would definitely pick Shutter Island by Martin Scorsese. This movie probably has one of the greatest twists of all time and has a great commentary on life. And my god, the music is fantastic, it's so great at building suspense and really captures the tone of the scenes perfectly. Leonardo Dicaprio is amazing as usual and the rest of the cast is stellar as well. Scorsese has crafted a masterful film that I feel is very underrated.

What do you want to do after high-school?

I plan on going to some sort of film or acting school, I really haven't decided which I want to pursue yet. I'd obviously love to be in the business in some shape or form. I'd really be happy doing whatever, as long as I was helping create something I love.
